Kang Liu studied Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the Institute of Mechatronic Control Engineering, Zhejiang University, P.R.China. He recieved his Bachelor and Master Degree from Zhejiang University in 2001 and 2004, respectively. In March 2004 he moved to Hannover and started to pursue his PhD at the Institut für Informationsverarbeitung (TNT). He received his doctorate degree (Dr.-Ing.) from Leibniz Universität Hannover in June 2011. Currently, he works as a Post-doc in a facial animation project at TNT. His research interests are image processing, 3D modeling, facial animation, and human-computer interfaces.

He was awarded an ISCA Grant for participating in the ISCA sponsored conference, Interspeech 2008.

His excellent research work on facial animation received the Golden Lips Award for Audiovisual Consistency in the first visual speech synthesis challenge: LIPS 2008, Sept. 22-26, 2008 in Brisbane, Australia.

Kang Liu won the 2008 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad. The Award ceremony took place on 26. April, 2009 at the Chinese Embassy in Berlin.

Kang Liu is awarded a travel grant for participating at FG2011 (Face and Gesture Recognition). This grant is provided by National Science Foundation and it is managed through Colorado State University.
